Result:
Our website won the CODELancashire 2025 hackathon.
Tools:
HTML, CSS, React, GitHub
The mission:
Work in a group to create a website for a charity in just three days
What we did:
-
We agreed on HTML, CSS and React as our tools of choice and divided the tasks up among ourselves. *We set the project up on Github, so that we could all work on our own bits remotely and check in on what the others were up to. This was also useful for version control in case we broke any code, which we did.
-
We styled the website to meet the charity's existing brand guidelines, and added in all the required information, including contact details and news of the new service.
-
We also created a carousel, to include logos for all of the charity's accreditations, partners and funders.
-
We created various online forms so that partner agencies could refer individuals and individuals could apply by themselves, as well as giving users of the service the option to leave feedback.
-
The forms had dynamic elements which added or removed questions based on previous answers, as well as accepting signatures.
-
The answers were sent to a secure cloud server protected by two-factor authentification, to meet GDPR rules.
-
We created a log-in system which password-protected certain pages, allowing the charity to restrict access to pre-approved agencies.
-
After receiving the brief on Monday night we then presented our website to the charity on Thursday night.
The outcome:
The project was selected as the hackathon winner by the charity, who said the solution we had created would be "immediately useful".
CODELancashire added: "The amount you achieved in such a short space of time was amazing! I loved the way your team worked together and created something innovative and very much needed by the charity! Very well deserved win!"
